About Mama and Mia’s Bath Shop: We are Mama and Mia’s Soap Shop. Me (Becky) being Mama and Mia (pronounce Me-ya) being my 6 year old little girl. She is also my biggest helper, motivator, inspiration and all around favorite person in the world.
Several years ago I put on some lotion and wondered why it made my legs burn. I don’t have sensitive skin and it would always make my skin tingle and hurt. I looked at the ingredients and googled a few of the ones I couldn’t pronounce. What is this stuff?? What am I absorbing into my body? What am I putting on my baby?
This took me on an interesting journey of researching things that I hadn’t previous thought much about. I started making what I could at home, chapstick, lotion, scrubs, some bath fizzies. I make these with pure, clean ingredients that I can pronounce.
In all my learning I came across a recipe for soap from scratch! How intimidating!! Real Lye!! Yikes! The stuff that burns you and cleans your drains! I tried making soap anyway and thought…eh, this feels great on my skin but it didn’t look or smell very nice and it was a lot of work! I kept making it to use at home and then I ran across some pictures of pretty soaps and well….here I am. Oh, and the Lye, I’m the only one in danger. Once I put it in with the lovely oils and butters, it becomes soap, it is no longer Lye and there is nothing to be afraid of. Science is pretty cool.
(Side note: Mia helps with the colors and the fragrance – she is never around the lye, I keep my side-kick safe) She is also a premium bath fizzie maker, she really is better at it then I am.
